During the winter Christmas period, the English Riviera plays host to an exciting event: The Bay of Lights! Taking place throughout Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, the whole Bay comes alive with a flurry of illuminated events to form the Bay of Lights. From lantern parades to a steam train covered in lights, to carols by candlelight, the English Riviera is truly magical over winter.And don't forget the star of the show: The Illumination Trail along Torquay seafront.
Torre Abbey Christmas Market is back as part of the magical Bay of Lights! From Friday 28 November to Sunday 21 December, explore over 30 local stalls brimming with artisan gifts, seasonal treats, and delicious food and drink. Whether you’re starting or ending your Illumination Trail adventure, warm up with a mulled wine or local beer, enjoy the dazzling light projection show, and soak up the joyful atmosphere of this festive market. The market will offer an array of holiday treats, unique gifts, artisanal crafts as well as a tempting selection of food and drink. It’s the perfect place to enjoy some Christmas shopping and to find the perfect gift for your loved ones while soaking up the festive atmosphere.
Take a ride on the Train of Lights! The multi award-winning Christmas experience and the UK's first ever steam train of lights. The Christmas Train of Lights is now the must-see event in the South West festive calendar and of course the 2025 show will capture the magic of the previous shows and will also feature new displays and surprises. Don't forget, the show can only be viewed from the train as you travel the line from Paignton to Kingswear.
For the first time in years, visitors and locals alike can enjoy the magic of Ice skating at Abbey Park, Torquay. This beautifully lit, large ice rink will be open daily from Saturday 6 December 2025 to Friday 2 January 2026, offering hourly sessions for up to 80 skaters. Skating is held under a sparkling canopy, enabling you to make this winter truly magical whatever the weather!
